Winter in Tohoku is the season for grilled dango and warm amazake. ❄️
A kind grandmother in Fukushima welcomed us with steaming cups of sweet amazake, while nearby, golden dango slowly roasted over glowing charcoal until perfectly crisp on the outside.
The comforting aroma of the charcoal fire, the gentle sweetness of the amazake, and the peaceful winter scenery came together to create a moment of pure warmth.
It was a simple yet unforgettable taste of a Tohoku winter.

This local specialty is enjoyed using a whole green onion as both your chopsticks and a delicious accompaniment.
The noodles absorb the fresh aroma of the onion, and each bite of the crisp, naturally sweet, and slightly spicy green onion adds another layer of flavor.
Simple yet full of local character, it’s a dish that perfectly captures the unique charm of Ouchi-juku.
